Where'd the fresh scent go?

I was forever and ever amen a faithful Tide detergent user until about 1 year ago.
I mean that is probably the only detergent I'd used since marriage. (19 yrs.) About
a year ago, I made the switch to Gain.  My sweet man requested that I make
a detergent change because he was noticing a "body chemistry" reaction
to what he thought was the detergent.  In plain words, his clothes didn't
smell very pleasant when he would sweat. Ok.. there.. its out there, sorry honey.
The good news is, changing detergents worked!  No more stinky clothes.. yay!

Anyway.. I am getting to my real point here.  I have been using Gain for about
a year, and it really does clean our clothes well.  I have no issues with Gain.
I am still a faithful user of Downy fabric softener as well... I like the pink cap. :O)

I have been noticing for quite some time, that there is absolutely NO fresh
smell to our clothes anymore.  They are very soft, and static free, which
is great, but I miss that fresh downy smell on my clothing.

I was talking to a friend, and she says when possible she line dries
to retain the fresh fabric softener scent on her clothes.  I could line dry,
and do line dry (some things in the summer) but I'm not about to hang our
panties out on the line for all to see.  Ain't Happen'!

As it is right now, my clothes just smell "hot" when they come out of the dryer.
Weird I know, but I don't know how else to explain it.  I'm using the same machines,
with the same settings.  Could the temp be to high??

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

So I guess my question is..... if you use a fabric softener, are you able
to smell it on your clothing after it comes out of the dryer?   Do you have
any suggestions for me?

Yours truly,
Desperately in need for that fresh Downy smell in my life again. :O)

I have recently started using Gain in-wash scent booster and I LOVE it! It comes in small pink bead like pebbles that you add directly to the wash. It is called Fireworks/sweet sizzle. I am loving how my clothes smell.

I use Tide HE powder and Downy liquid. I think I still do still smell "fresh" on our clothes and towels when they dry. I notice it mostly on our pool towels. I think I told you I stopped used fabric sheets per orders from my new dryer cause they said it causes a waxy build-up to form in the dryer. Hope you get your "fresh-scent" feeling again. Let us know what worked. Maybe you can store dryer sheets in with your clothes and towels.

I have tried Mrs. Meyers liquid detergent and fabric softener too, they all smell wonderful but it is expensive. Target sells it.

Sometimes I think my nose just gets adjusted to the smell and that's why I don't notice it. I go between Tide and Wisk but after my three jugs are used up, I might try Gain. I've always liked the smell. As for softener, I switch between Downy and Snuggle but I have that very bottle in my laundry room right now. I think the scent of Snuggle lasts longer.

I can't help you, as I'm an unscented fan myself. I hope you find an answer. Connie's in wash scent booster sounds intriguing. Do you suppose they have vanilla scented detergent and fabric softener? That would entice me over to the scented side. Rick may not like it though... sigh.

I'm an Era user...with oxy! I also use dryer sheets. So I'm not much help! I haven't not noticed a scent, so that is good for me. But, I do think it is possible to become accustomed to scents used on a regular basis. Good luck to you!

I have nothing to add to this because I make my own soap. I add peroxide to my whites. I use vinegar as my fabric softener and help with static cling, I use a ball made from aluminium foil. I've been doing this for 5 years and I don't even remember what tide smells like. I can tell you though that my towels are softer and more absorbent, my whites are whiter and my clothes seem to last longer...our jeans do not fade out. And no skin irritations...which I love!
I do love some clothes tossed on the line and dried in the warm sunshine. Sunshine just makes everything better. ;)
