Clay Pots

I am SO anxious to get my plants in the ground.
I have been holding off because of frost.  Our temps.
have been really nice, but we still get the occasional
frost overnight.  I don't want my little darlings to get
the "burn".

In the meantime, I've been scouting out new pots
and trying to figure out how I'm going to "do up"
our front porch this year.  Our lawn, landscaping,
flower beds have been a work in progress over the
past 3 years.  Funny how when we built this home
I never really gave a lot of thought to how long it
takes to get a really "lush" looking landscape.

Anyhoodle... here we are Spring #3, and what
we've done so far is just beautiful.  I owe it all to
hub's.  He planned it all out, planted, and tends to
it.  However, my job is the flowers.  I lurv flowers
and I like lots of color.  We've been getting some
much needed rain, everything seems to have new
growth, and I'm tickled with all of it.

I was blog browsing, and came a across a cute idea on how
to dress up some plain 'ole clay pots.   As y'all know
clay pots are extremely reasonable in the price dept.
and can be found in just about any garden center.

Here's what you need:
One clay pot. (or 10) Any size you like.
(Bought mine at Home Depot just under $2 each)
Jute ( Home Depot for I "think" @$3)
Glue gun & plenty of glue sticks.
A little spare time.
{Side Note}
I worked on these Friday night while we (the family) watched
GREAT, GREAT MOVIE!  If you haven't seen it, go rent it!

OK.. back to the pots.
For the "wrapped pot" with braid and bow, I just started with a thin ribbon
of glue about 2 inches long, and laid on the jute. More glue, more jute.
Yeah.. it takes a little while, but if your like me, and need to keep busy
while watching a movie, etc. you'll be done before you know it.  I then
breaded 3 pieces and added more glue, and wrapped it around the top
edge of where I started with the jute.  Used the rest to make a bow, and
more glue.  SO EASY!
For the pot with circles, I started with a dot of hot glue, applied
the jute, and started "spinning" the jute around and around.  Each
little spin, I added  more glue. When it was the size I wanted, I just
added a little more glue, and started the connected circle.  Instead of
starting in the center, I started on the outside, and worked my way
into the center, lots of glue as you go, and trim once you get to the
center.  Again.. SO EASY!

I'll be back with more pics when they are filled and in their new home.

Excellent! My sister needs to update some inexpensive pots for her new post-Katrina sunroom redo! Yes, it is right now finally getting done.

Love them.

Morning Amy, I don't know where I saw this idea. It was either a magazine or a blog, but someone used chalkboard paint on the sides of the clay pots. They left the rims as is. Then wrote plant names in chalk, like chives, thyme, oregano etc. They used the black chalkboard paint. I've also seen multiple colors of chalkboard paint available now. I'm pretty sure I saw the different colors at Walmart.
I love your jute idea. Very cute.

Those turned out very cute. I know what you mean about planting too early, I have been forcing myself not to buy annuals yet beacause of the very same reason. Our rule of thumb is nothing before Mother's Day should be planted that can't handle a late frost.

I guess I could get my pots cleaned and readied. Clay pots are a perfect for dressing up. Thanks for the idea.
