Bottle cap magnets

I like to use magnets, but I usually find that thicker
papers, brochures, invitations, etc. cause the cutesy
magnets that I usually buy, just slide right on down
the fridge, or not hold at all.
I was on the lookout for a more powerful magnet,
but something that coordinates with my kitchen.
That's when I stumbled upon THIS PROJECT from The
Farm Chicks. BINGO!

This is a re~use/re~purpose project.

Here's what you'll need.
Plastic bottle caps
Magnets the fit inside the bottle cap *TAKE YOUR CAP WITH YOU*
A "nut" for each magnet (this is the filler between the cap and magnet)
Fabric circle (cute about larger than the cap)
Hot glue

Place hot glue on center of bottle cap, then immediately
place it in the center of the wrong side of the fabric circle.

Cut slits all the way around, but not quite to the caps edge.

Fold up each section at a time, and use a dab of hot glue.

I next hot glued the nut into the bottom of the cap, then
added more hot glue to the top of the nut, and topped
it with the magnet.

I added a little ribbon trim around the base of the magnet for decoration.

Here's the first batch, ready for report cards, sport pictures, grocery
lists, etc.

I cannot stress enough that you need to take your bottle cap with you
to purchase your magnets. Mine were purchased at Lowe's in a 6 pack
for @$2. Other than that, I had everything else on hand. The thicker
the magnet, the stronger the hold.

While making these, my mind started to wonder thinking about other
versions of magnets. There are many possibilities.

Think you'll make some? Better start saving those caps.

I love this idea, Amy. I have a painted metal door off our kitchen, where the laundry area is and out to our garage. I started to make this space my command center with our calendar, schedules, lists, some pictures and inspirational quotes. These magnets would be a nice way to tie in my decor. Thanks so much!

This is an awesome idea. I am usually a "matchy-matchy" person, so a mish-mash of magnets on the fridge drives me crazy. Plus, you are right... ordinary magnets don't cut it for heavier items. Thank you so much for sharing. I will be saving bottle tops to make these!

You are so smart! All your cute ideas! This would be easy for my grandkids to do, don't you think?

Thank you for another idea!
